About the Realm
State of the Realm is an independent weekly publication about the United Kingdom.
Our mission
Britain is discussed constantly and examined rarely. State of the Realm exists to do the examining. Each week we publish one substantial paper on how the country is actually working: its government, economy, laws and public services. The other examines who the country is actually becoming: its identity, culture and common life. No noise, no hot takes: researched, written and evidenced work, free for anyone to read.
Two pillars
Every Monday at 8:00am, we publish two papers, one for each pillar of the publication:
The State of the Nation
A substantial weekly investigation into how Britain is governed and functioning.
The State of the Culture
A substantial weekly examination of who Britain is becoming.
Our schedule
Two articles, every week, published together every Monday at 8:00am (UK time). When either pillar's paper needs more time, we say so rather than fill the slot with filler.
Masthead
State of the Realm is published and edited from the United Kingdom. Editorial decisions are made by the publication's editor, who is accountable for everything we print: every paper carries a named author, and the editor is responsible for the standards we hold it to. Members can reach the editorial desk at privacy@stateoftherealm.org.
Independent governance
State of the Realm has no party political affiliation and is not owned by a media group, a lobbyist or a advertiser-funded parent. Editorial decisions are made independently of any commercial or political interest, and our funding comes from readers. We publish our editorial standards openly, including our corrections policy, so readers can hold us to the same scrutiny we apply to the country.
Plurality
Writers can reach clear conclusions. Plurality operates across the publication rather than inside every article: over time we publish intelligent competing perspectives, so readers meet the strongest arguments on each side.

Every paper opens with a free preview. Members can read each article in full and join the discussion and the member community.
